Our place is on 3rd Marine Street in Mumbai, right in the heart of the old city area. It is a very busy street with people constantly moving back and forth. The building is one of those classic Mumbai structures with high ceilings and heavy doors. You can hear the taxis honking outside all day long, which just becomes part of the background noise after a week of working here. We have a lot of desks lined up because there are quite a few of us. It gets pretty loud when everyone is on a call at the same time. The humidity is something we just live with, and the salt air from being so close to the ocean means things rust a bit faster than usual. We have a small lift, but it’s tiny, so we usually just walk up. It’s faster anyway. We have a routine where we rotate who brings in the morning biscuits. It’s a simple thing but it keeps the mood okay. The office is mostly full of filing cabinets and headsets. We don’t have fancy art or expensive carpets. It’s a practical space for practical work. Sometimes the monsoon rains make the street outside flood a little, and we have to jump over puddles to get to the station. That’s just life in Mumbai for us.
