N. M. Dharia & Co.

Nagdevi Street is always busy. Our place is N. M. Dharia & Co. and we’ve been at Ratan House for a while now. You have to walk up to the second floor. It’s a bit of a climb but we are used to it. The stairs are narrow and sometimes there are boxes everywhere. People come in looking for things and we just try to find what they need in the stacks. Bibijan Street is right there and it gets loud with all the carts and people shouting. We start early when the shutters on the street go up. Sometimes it’s dusty because of all the construction nearby. We keep our records on the desk and deal with whoever walks in. It’s not fancy. The fans keep spinning all day but it still gets warm in the afternoons. We’ve known the neighbors for years. We just get on with the work, checking the orders and making sure the counts are right before things go out. Sometimes the phone rings and it's someone asking for a price or if we have something in stock. We check the shelves and let them know. It’s just how it goes here in this part of town. Every day is mostly the same, just keeping the shop running and making sure the paperwork is done. We don't have much space but we make it work. It's just us at number 25. The floor is old wood and it creaks.
