Textile Association (India) Mumbai Unit is based at the Bombay Convention Exhibition Centre in Goregaon (East). It is a massive place and there is almost always some kind of big event or trade show happening in the main halls. Our unit has an office within the complex where we handle all the regular day-to-day work. It’s a busy atmosphere because people are always coming and going. We have desks piled with fabric samples, thread charts, and lots of folders. Since Mumbai is such a big hub for textiles, being here in Goregaon makes a lot of sense for us. We talk to all sorts of people, from those who own large mills to people who run small weaving shops. There is a lot of talking and coordination involved in what we do. When a big exhibition is being set up, the noise of hammers and forklifts can be quite loud, but we are used to it by now. We aren’t some big corporate entity; we are just a group of people who have been in the textile industry for a long time. We drink a lot of tea and discuss the latest news about machines or the price of cotton. The office is practical and doesn't have any fancy decorations. Most people know exactly where the exhibition center is, so finding us is never a problem. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs to be done.
