Mukti Gold

Mukti Gold is tucked away on the first floor at 60A/7 in Old Satta Gully. It is right opposite G. Bhagat Tarachand, so if you are hungry, you know exactly where we are in Zaveri Bazar. This part of Kalbadevi Road is always loud and full of people carrying heavy bags or pushing carts. We stay up on the first floor where it is a bit quieter than the street level. We mainly work with gold pieces and small ornaments throughout the week. The office is small and the walls are painted a pale yellow that has seen better days. We have a couple of desks and some old safes where we keep the inventory safe. Most of our time is spent talking to craftsmen who bring in their latest work for us to see. It is not fancy here. We do not have fancy displays or bright spotlights. We just check the purity of the metal and handle the logistics of moving items around. Sometimes the tea stall downstairs brings us snacks while we work through the long afternoon. The stairs are quite steep, so we tell people to be careful when they visit. We have been here for years and the neighbors are all friends. It is a tight-knit community in this gully. We do not bother with much publicity. We just open the shutters in the morning and start the day’s tasks. It is simple, honest work in a very old city.
