Monginis

The shop is right here on Sola Road 1 in Kanjurmarg East. It’s a pretty standard spot for a Monginis. We spend a lot of our day behind the counter, mostly just waiting for the next person to walk through the door. The glass cases need a lot of wiping because fingerprints show up so easily. We have a routine where we check the dates on everything as soon as the sun comes up. It’s a quiet part of the road mostly, though the traffic picks up around four. We know the guys at the shop next door and usually chat about how the day is going. The floor is made of these white tiles that stay cool even when it’s hot outside. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we just sit on the crates outside and wait. There’s a small clock on the wall that ticks a bit too loud when the shop is empty. We keep the blue and pink boxes stacked high in the corner so they are easy to grab when someone wants a cake. It isn't a complicated business. We just keep the lights on and the shelves full. Sometimes we have to fix the display lights because they flicker. It feels like a normal part of the neighborhood, nothing too special, just a place where you can get a quick sweet thing on your way home.
