Mohammedi Store

Down here in Dharavi, things are always moving fast and there's never a dull moment. We are right on the Main Road at Shop No. 42. It’s a small space but we make it work for us. Since we are so close to Mahim Station, there is never a quiet moment from morning until night. You can hear the trains if you listen close enough, but mostly it is just the sound of people walking and talking outside the door. We start early because the crowds from the station start coming through as soon as the sun is up. The shop is just a basic room with our things packed in as tight as we can. It gets a bit cramped when more than two people come in at once to buy something. We don't have fancy lights or any of that high-end stuff. It's just Mohammedi Store, sitting there on the busy street. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because the water collects on the road outside, but we just keep the door open anyway. We see a lot of commuters rushing back and forth. Some stop for a minute to chat, others just keep going. It’s a lot of the same every day, but that’s how it goes in Mumbai. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. It’s easy to find us if you are walking from the station toward the main part of Dharavi. We just keep our heads down and handle the customers as they come. It’s just a normal shop doing normal things.
