Mit-Dix Gems

Our shop, Mit-Dix Gems, is located at 25 Nanik Niwas on Benham Hall Lane in Girgaum. It’s a bit of a maze getting here if you don't know the area well. Girgaum is full of these narrow lanes and old buildings. We’ve been in this spot for quite some time now. The building, Nanik Niwas, has a lot of character, though the elevator can be a bit temperamental sometimes. Inside our space, it’s mostly quiet. We spend a lot of time looking at stones through loupes and sorting them by size and color. It’s a lot of sitting and being patient. We aren't a big operation. It’s just a few of us who know the trade. The lighting has to be just right, so we have these bright lamps over every desk. Sometimes the street noise from Benham Hall Lane drifts in, but mostly we just focus on the gems. We don't go in for big displays or shiny advertisements. Most people who come here have been told about us by someone else. We keep our records in big thick books, and there’s always a cup of tea nearby. It’s a slow kind of business, not like the rush you see in the bigger markets. We like it that way. It gives us time to look at things properly. If you visit, you might have to wait a minute for us to look up from our work.
