Down here at 48 Sutar Chawl in Zaveri Bazaar, it’s always crowded. M.F. Enterprise has been squeezed into this area for a long time. If you’ve ever been to Zaveri Bazaar, you know how the narrow lanes are. It’s a constant rush of people and carts. We spend our days mostly handling orders and talking to the people who walk in. It’s a lot of face-to-face interaction, which can be tiring but it keeps things interesting. The shop is small and filled with whatever we’re working on that week. We don't have much room to move around, so everything has to be kept in its specific place. Sometimes it feels like we’re just part of the walls here. The noise from the street never really stops until late at night. We mostly deal with the basics of the trade. No big marketing plans or anything like that, just keeping the books straight and making sure the customers get what they asked for. Lunch is usually eaten quickly at the back of the shop while someone else watches the front. It’s a simple way of working. We’ve known the neighbors for decades, and we all help each other out when someone needs a hand. It’s just the way life goes in the bazaar. We’re here every day except for the holidays. People stop by to chat and we keep our eyes on the boxes and the door. It's how it's always been for us at the chawl.
