Our department is the Sb Engg Dept at Mazagon Dock Ltd, located right on Dockyard Road in Mumbai. Working here means you are always surrounded by the sounds of the shipyard—clanging metal, whistles, and the general hum of heavy machinery. It’s a massive place, but our specific engineering section is where we handle the technical bits and pieces. The office is an old-fashioned government-style setup with heavy wooden desks and lots of green filing cabinets. It’s usually quite warm, and the salt air from the sea nearby tends to make everything feel a bit sticky. We spend our days looking over technical drawings and going through maintenance logs for the ships. It’s a lot of responsibility, but we just take it one day at a time. The canteen here is where most of us catch up over tea and snacks. Mumbai’s pace is fast, and the dockyard is no different. There are always people moving around in overalls and hard hats. Our desks are covered in blueprints and various tools that we use for our daily checks. It’s not the kind of place where you worry about how your tie looks. We are more concerned with making sure the engineering work is solid. We’ve been part of the Mumbai waterfront for decades, and the history of the place is something you feel every time you walk through the gates in the morning to start your shift.
