S Mansukhlal Co. is located at No. 194 Samuel Street, right at the Khoja Gali Naka in Masjid Bunder West. If you’ve ever been to this part of the city, you know how packed it is. The streets are narrow and there are handcarts and people everywhere. Our building is one of those old ones that has seen a lot of history. We’ve been here for a long time, and not much has changed in our daily routine. We open up the shutters early in the morning when the first deliveries start arriving. It’s a tight space, filled with ledgers and stacks of whatever we are trading that week. We don't have a lobby or a waiting room. You just walk in off the street and you're right in the middle of it. The noise from the market outside is constant, but after a while, you just stop hearing it. We spend our days talking to brokers and checking on shipments. It’s a lot of manual work and handwriting things in books. We aren't high-tech people. We prefer doing things the way we’ve always done them. Most of the other shopkeepers on Samuel Street are like family to us now. We see the same faces every day. It’s a hectic place to work, but it feels right. We just keep our heads down and handle the trade as it comes in.
