We run Malik Enterprises out of Gala No 2 in the Bilkis Manzil building. We are part of the Ismail Shamshuddin Estate, right in the heart of the Ana Sagar Scrap Market in Kurla West. If you know Kurla, you know it’s a tight, busy place with a lot of energy. Our gala is usually packed with all sorts of items we’ve collected. Working in a scrap market means you never know what’s going to come through the door next. It’s a lot of sorting, weighing, and negotiating. The air is always full of the sound of metal clanging and people shouting out prices. We’ve been in this specific spot for quite some time now. The neighbors are all doing similar work, so it’s a real community of traders and workers. Our office is just a corner of the gala with a desk and a couple of chairs. It’s not fancy, but it gets the job done. We spend most of the day on our feet moving things around or talking to people who come in looking for specific parts or materials. Kurla West has its own rhythm and we are very much a part of it. We don't use big words or have a "mission" really; we just try to buy fair and sell fair. It’s a gritty, honest way to make a living and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The days are long but there is always something happening around the market that keeps us on our toes.
