Mahashila Jewellery

Zaveri Bazar is always a bit of a maze, and we are right in the thick of it on Sheikh Memon Street. Mahashila Jewellery is on the second floor of 70/70A, just across from where Bhagat Tarachand is. If you know that area, you know how crowded the lanes can get with people looking for gold and silver. We have been operating out of this space for quite a while now. It’s a traditional setup, nothing like those big modern showrooms you see in the malls. We have our counters and our displays, and we spend most of our day dealing with customers who come in looking for specific pieces. Sometimes it’s a quick sale, other times people stay for an hour looking at different designs and asking about weights and prices. The building is old, like most things in this part of Mumbai, and it has that specific smell of old wood and metal. We don’t do much advertising because most people find us through word of mouth or by just wandering up the stairs after seeing our board. It’s a busy life being in the jewelry trade here. There is always something to polish or a repair to look at under the light. We just keep things simple and focus on the work at hand. It gets loud outside with all the street noise and the carts going by, but inside it’s usually just the sound of people talking. We like it this way.
