Novelty Interiors

Novelty Interiors is out at Madh Island in Room No. 2 at the Madh Jetty. We are right near the Vanela Tank which is a big landmark for people around here. To get to us many people have to take the ferry from Malad West and then walk a bit. It feels very different here than in the main city because you can smell the sea and see the boats. The shop is in an old building and the walls are thick but the paint is peeling a bit from the salt in the air. We keep a lot of wood pieces and fabric swatches in the room. It is a bit cluttered because we have tools lying around and half-finished projects in the corner. We spend a lot of time measuring things and drawing out plans on pieces of scrap paper. The jetty is always busy with people coming and going from the boats so there is a lot of life right outside our door. Sometimes the monkeys from the trees nearby come close to the entrance but we just shoo them away. It is not a polished studio but it is where we do all our thinking and making. We work by the light coming in from the open door mostly. It is a slow-paced area but we keep busy with the local projects and the neighbors who stop by to chat or ask for something.
