You can find M. S. Desai & Co. right in the middle of Nagdevi Cross Lane. It’s on the 2nd floor of Patel House, at number 77. If you’ve ever walked down Nagdevi, you know how it is. It’s crowded, there are guys carrying heavy loads on their shoulders, and it’s always loud. Patel House is one of those old buildings with the steep stairs that make you catch your breath by the time you reach the second floor. We’ve been here for a long time. The lane is famous for all sorts of hardware and tools, and we are just one part of the whole scene. Our space isn’t very big, but we have everything we need. It’s mostly shelves and papers and people talking on the phone. The light inside is a bit dim sometimes because the buildings are so close together. You can hear the noise from the street coming up through the windows all day long. It’s not a quiet place to work, but it’s where all the action is. We don't spend much time worrying about how the office looks. It’s more about getting the job done and talking to the people who walk in. Most of our neighbors have been here as long as we have. We just keep our heads down and handle the daily grind in this little corner of Mumbai. It is just how we do things here every day.
