M. M. Jariwala

Our place is right across from Saifi High School on Banian Street. It's a very narrow area in Pydhonie, and the traffic is usually a complete mess. M. M. Jariwala has been here for years, sitting right on A.E Road. If you walk past the school, you can’t miss us. It’s a noisy spot with students shouting and motorcycles zooming by all day. Inside, it’s mostly just stacks of materials and us working at the old wooden tables. We don’t have air conditioning, so we keep the fans going as fast as they’ll turn in the summer. It gets dusty, but that’s just how it is in this part of town. We’ve known the neighbors for decades. Sometimes we stand out front just to catch a bit of a breeze. We don’t bother with big signs or bright lights. People know where we are. We keep things simple here. We write down orders in big ledgers. Computers are okay, but we still like the paper. The floor is old stone and stays cool in the summer heat. We spend our time checking the quality of what comes in and goes out. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s our life. We drink tea from the stall next door twice a day. No one wears a tie here. We just do the work and close up when the sun sets. It’s been this way since the start.
