M. Lakhamsi & Co.

We’ve been over at New Marine Lines for a good while now, specifically up on the fifth floor of Churchgate Chambers. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, so there is always noise from the street, but we’ve gotten used to it. M. Lakhamsi & Co. is basically just a small group of us doing our thing every day in a fairly old-fashioned office. Most of our mornings start with a lot of paperwork and phone calls. Usually, one of the younger guys is sent out to grab tea for everyone around mid-morning because that’s how we stay awake. We don’t really have a fancy reception area. It’s just a lot of desks, some old metal cabinets, and people working. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we end up taking the stairs. It’s quite a climb to the fifth floor, but it’s good for the legs, I suppose. We deal with a lot of different people, and it gets quite loud. We aren’t trying to be some big corporate giant. We just keep the business running and try to make sure we don't lose any papers in the stacks. If you come by 505, you’ll see we’ve got binders from years ago still sitting on the shelves. It’s not a showroom; it is just a place where we get our work done. Most of the people we work with have known us for a long time. We just stick to what we know and try to get through the day.
