M. I. Die Works

Our shop, M. I. Die Works, is tucked away at S-4 in the M K Industrial Estate. We are part of the D.R.D. Chemical Compound on Sonawala Cross Road No. 2 in Goregaon East. It’s a mouthful of an address, but once you’ve been here a few times, it’s easy to find. The industrial estate is a maze of small businesses and workshops, all doing their own thing. We spend our days working on dies and metal parts. It’s noisy and dusty work, and our clothes usually show it by lunchtime. Goregaon East is a busy part of Mumbai, and the energy from the city definitely makes its way into the compound. We don't have a fancy office; we just have the workspace and a small corner for keeping the books. Most of the guys here have been doing this for years, so we don't need to say much to get the job done. We just know the sounds of the machines and when something needs a little oil or a bit of a fix. Sonawala Cross Road is always packed with delivery trucks and workers, so there is always something to look at during breaks. We aren't trying to change the world. We are just trying to make sure every die that leaves S-4 is exactly the way it was supposed to be when we started. It's just a regular workplace.
