Lata Export Apparels is located in Bhandup West, inside the Btm Compound. It’s one of those old-school industrial areas where everyone is busy making something. Our unit is 201/B, and if you walk up, you’ll hear the sound of sewing machines long before you see the door. We do a lot of garment work here, mostly for export, so there are always piles of fabric and thread everywhere. The room is filled with long tables where people are cutting cloth or checking the finished shirts for any loose threads. It’s not a quiet place, especially when all the machines are running at once, but it’s a good kind of busy. In the summer, the ceiling fans spin as fast as they can, but it still gets quite warm in the compound. We usually have a tea break in the afternoon, and everyone stands around the entrance to catch a bit of a breeze. We’ve got a small crew of folks who have been stitching for years and really know their way around a garment. We don’t have a big marketing department or a polished showroom. It’s just us, some heavy-duty sewing machines, and lots of cardboard boxes ready to be sent off. Sometimes the delivery trucks have a hard time getting into the compound because it’s so narrow, but we always manage to get things loaded and on their way eventually.
