K.M. Shelat & Sons

K.M. Shelat & Sons is tucked away in B-103 of the Shivnagar Industrial Estate on Kotkar Road in Goregaon East. It’s a bit of a maze to find us if you aren’t used to the layout of these old industrial blocks. The elevator in the building is quite small and slow, so most of us just take the stairs, even when we are carrying heavy folders or small packages. Our office has been in the family for a long time. There are old wooden cabinets filled with papers that go back years, and the desks are pushed close together to make room for everything. It gets a bit noisy with the traffic from the Western Express Highway nearby, but we’ve stopped noticing it. We handle a lot of different tasks throughout the day, mostly involving paperwork and talking to suppliers on the phone. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, and the ceiling fans are quite old, but they still work well enough to keep the air moving. We usually have a lot of chai throughout the day to keep us going. It’s a small team here, so everyone ends up doing a bit of everything. We don't have any big corporate meetings or fancy presentations. We just come in, do the work that needs doing, and try to keep things organized. It’s a quiet, steady kind of business that has seen the neighborhood change a lot over the decades.
