Karishma Gifts & Apparel Factory

Our place is down in Chandivali, right off Saki-Vihar Road. It is part of the Johnson D’Souza Chawl, specifically unit A/9. If you are coming from the main road, we are quite close to Oberai Gardens which everyone in this part of town knows. The area stays busy all day with trucks and people moving back and forth. Inside the factory, things are usually a bit loud because of the machines running. We make clothes and various gift items here. It is not the most modern building you will ever see, but it has been our home for a long time. The walls have some marks and the floors are worn down from people walking across them all day. We start early in the morning before the heat gets too bad. By midday, it can get quite warm inside. There are stacks of fabric and boxes piled up in the corners waiting to go out to customers. We do not have a fancy showroom for people to look at. Most people who come here are just picking up orders or dropping off supplies. Sometimes the tea man comes by in the afternoon and we take a quick break outside on the step. It is a straightforward operation without any frills. We focus on the sewing and the packing. The neighborhood is a mix of old shops and new residential towers nearby. It feels like a real part of Mumbai where things actually get made.
