Kannan Fabrics

We are tucked away at 19 Hamsa Lay Out in the R.S. Puram area. It’s a decent spot, away from the main road noise but still easy enough for people to find once they know where to look. We spend most of our time surrounded by rolls of cloth and different types of fabric. It gets pretty dusty in here with all the lint flying around, but that’s just how it is in the textile trade. We don't have those big bright lights or air conditioning that makes you freeze like in the malls. It’s just a simple shop where we keep track of what’s coming in and what’s going out to the tailors or local buyers. Sometimes the colors don't look exactly right in the morning light inside the shop, so we have to take the fabric outside to the doorway to show people the real shade. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, with new cafes and shops opening up nearby, but we just keep doing what we know. The shelves are usually piled high, and sometimes it takes us a minute to find the specific roll someone is asking for. It’s not a perfect system, but it works for us and our customers don't seem to mind waiting a bit. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the weather while we wait for the next delivery truck to arrive. It’s a basic way to make a living, and we’re happy enough staying right here in Hamsa Lay Out.
