We are based in the Parwati Industrial Estate at Kanchan Textile. Being in an industrial estate means it is always noisy and there is always a truck blocking the way somewhere. Our unit is where we handle the fabric and textile work. It isn't a showroom. It is a workplace with machines running and people moving rolls of cloth from one side to the other. The air is usually filled with a bit of lint and the smell of fresh dye. We don't have a fancy entrance or a place for guests to sit. Usually, we are too busy checking the weave of the fabric or counting meters to worry about decor. The walls are just plain concrete and we have big industrial lights hanging from the ceiling. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, but we have some big fans that help a bit. Most of our work is for other businesses who need bulk fabric. We don't really sell to individuals walking in off the street. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting heavy bundles and making sure the colors match the orders. We’ve been in this estate for years and know most of the other unit owners. We share tea during the breaks and complain about the power cuts. It is a tough business but we are used to the rhythm of the machines and the daily grind. We stay until the last shipment is loaded onto the truck for the night.
