About Kamruddin Adamjee And Co. – Textile in Mumbai
If you head down to Bhendi Bazar and look for 135 Ebrahim Rahimtoola Road, you’ll find us. Kamruddin Adamjee And Co. has been part of this street for a long time. The building is old, and the stairs have that dip in the middle from so many people walking up and down them for decades. Bhendi Bazar is never quiet. There’s always someone shouting, a horn honking, or the smell of food from the stalls nearby. Our space is packed with files and ledgers. We don't have those glass walls or modern furniture you see in the new parts of the city. Everything here is functional and a bit worn out. The wooden desks have seen a lot of use. We usually have the windows open, even though the noise from Ebrahim Rahimtoola Road comes right in. It’s better than being stuffed in a box. We know the shopkeepers next door, and we usually get our afternoon tea from the same guy who has been coming by for years. It’s a very traditional way of working, I suppose. We don't spend money on fancy decorations or marketing brochures. We just do our work, talk to the people who come in, and keep things moving. It’s a busy life in a very busy part of Mumbai, but we are used to the chaos by now. The work isn't always easy with all the interruptions, but we wouldn't know how to work anywhere else.
