Up in Dahisar East, at Sargam Apartment on Shiv Vallabh Road, we have our little setup for making jewelry. We are on the fifth floor in flat B/502. It’s not a big shop window on the street; it’s more of a workshop where the actual creation happens. Rawalpada is a busy part of Mumbai, and you can always hear the local traffic and the voices from the market below. We spend our hours sitting at benches with small tools and magnifying glasses. It’s quiet work that requires a lot of patience. Sometimes a piece doesn’t come out right and we have to melt it down and start over. Our desks are usually covered in tiny bits of metal and stones that we are trying to organize. We don’t have a big marketing department or a fancy showroom with lights and mirrors. If you want to see what we are doing, you have to come up to the apartment and see us at the benches. Most of our day is spent working with our hands. It’s a small team, and we’ve all been working together for quite a while now. We don't talk much while we work, just focus on what’s in front of us. Mumbai is a fast city, but in our little space in Dahisar, things move a bit slower. We just want to make things that look decent and last a long time.
