Life here is pretty much what you’d expect from a chawl. It is noisy and crowded and there is always something going on outside the door. Our room is small and we’ve filled it up with all the stuff we need for our work. It’s not one of those big shiny offices you see in the movies. It’s just a place where we sit down and get things done. We’ve been here for quite some time now. You get used to the sounds of the neighbors and the smells of cooking from the other rooms. The walls are a bit thin, so you can hear almost everything. We don’t have a fancy lobby or a person at a front desk. It’s just us. When the monsoon hits, the rain drums on the roof and it gets a bit damp, but that’s just part of being in Mumbai. We spend our days mostly answering the phone or writing things down in our ledgers. It’s a practical way to live and work. We don't really care for all that corporate talk. We just want to finish our tasks and go home like everyone else in the chawl. It’s a tight-knit place and we like being part of it. We just keep our heads down and do our work from this little spot.
