K. B. Thaker & Co.

Our office is located in Commerce House, right at 140 N.M. Road in the Fort area. K. B. Thaker & Co. has been operating out of room 110 for quite some time. It is an old building with those thick walls and high ceilings that you don't really see in the newer parts of the city. Being in Fort means it is always noisy outside with the buses and the people rushing to work, but once you get inside and walk up to our floor, it gets a little quieter. We spend most of our day surrounded by stacks of paper and old ledgers that seem to grow every week. The desks are a bit cluttered, but that is just how we work. Most of the time, we are just sitting here handling the day-to-day paperwork and answering the phone when it rings. It can get pretty hot in the afternoons when the sun hits the windows, so we keep the fans going at full speed. People come in and out all day for meetings or just to drop off documents. We know the chai wallah downstairs pretty well since he comes up a few times a day. It is a straightforward kind of life here. We don't have a big reception area or anything like that. Just some chairs for people to sit on while they wait for us to finish whatever we are doing. It is a practical space for practical work.
