If you know Mumbai, you know the Opera House area is where everything happens for stones and trading. Jmb Exim And Gems is located on the 3rd floor of the Regal Diamond building on Tata Road No 1. It’s a busy building, lots of people coming and going all the time, especially on the stairs when the elevator is taking forever. We spend our days tucked away in Plot 11/15, dealing with various gems and the export side of things. It’s a bit cramped sometimes with all the paperwork and the small parcels we handle, but that’s Girgaon for you. Every inch of space is used for something. We’ve been here long enough that we know the local chai wallahs and the other folks in the diamond trade. It isn't a glamorous setup despite dealing with gems; it's mostly us looking at stones under desk lamps and filling out forms for customs. The traffic outside on the road is always a mess, so we usually just stay put in the office until the day is done. Dealing with international shipping from a place like this takes patience because there's always some delay or a bit of confusion to sort out. We just try to get the orders right and keep the business running without too much fuss. It's a tough market but we've found our rhythm over the years in this little corner of Mumbai City.
