Javerchand Khimji Rangwala

Javerchand Khimji Rangwala is located at Rangwala House, which is 288 Samuel Street in Vadgadi. This area of Mumbai is incredibly crowded, and Samuel Street is famous for the chemical and dye trade. Our building, Rangwala House, is an old one with a lot of history etched into the walls. The name "Rangwala" itself tells you what we do—we deal with colors. If you walk into our place, you’ll see bags of pigments and containers of dyes everywhere. The air always has a bit of a chemical smell, and sometimes the floor gets stained with whatever color we were moving that day. It’s a very traditional way of doing business here in Vadgadi. We don’t have any modern glass partitions or air-conditioned suites. It’s mostly wooden desks, old ceiling fans, and a lot of talk. We spend our time negotiating with traders and checking the quality of the batches that come in from the factories. The street outside is a constant chaos of handcarts and delivery men, which makes loading and unloading a real challenge every single afternoon. We’ve been part of this market for generations, and not much has changed in the way we handle our daily tasks. It’s about knowing the product and knowing the people on the street. We just keep the records straight and make sure the colors are right. It's a noisy, hectic part of town, but it's where the heart of the trade is.
