You can find Jai Ambe Gifts & Stationers at 235, Janjikar Street, right by Jumma Masjid Lane. This is one of those old parts of the city where the lanes are so narrow you can barely walk through them when the market is in full swing. Our shop is small, packed with all sorts of pens, notebooks, and small gift items. We have things stacked up high because there isn't much floor space. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than two customers come in at once. We spend the day fetching things from the top shelves using a little stool. The area is always loud with the sounds of the mosque and the people haggling nearby. We don't have a computer system for everything; we still do a lot of things the old-fashioned way with a pen and a ledger. It is just easier for us. The building is quite old, and you can see the history in the walls and the wooden beams. We like being part of this community. People stop by just to say hello even if they don't need to buy a pencil. It is a simple life, opening the shutters in the morning and closing them late at night. We don't bother with fancy displays or advertising. People know we are here and that we usually have what they are looking for in our piles of stock.
