People usually find us here in Lohar Chawl. If you know Mumbai, you know this place is always packed with people moving boxes and wires around. We are on the first floor of the Kanji Gokaldas Building. It’s an old building, the kind where you have to watch your step on the stairs because they are a bit narrow and worn down. Being near Marine Lines Station helps our staff because we can just walk over from the train in a few minutes. Our office isn’t anything fancy at all. It’s just a simple place where we get the daily work done. J Shashi & Co has been around this area for quite a while. We spend most of our mornings dealing with the crowd outside and getting all the files sorted. Sometimes it gets loud because of the electrical market downstairs, but you get used to the noise. The windows don’t let in a lot of natural light, so we keep the tube lights on throughout the day. It’s a very practical space for us. We don’t have a big reception or any polished furniture. People just walk in, find a chair, and we start talking. There is usually tea coming in from the small stall downstairs. That’s just how things go for us. Most of our day is spent looking at papers or talking to folks who drop by. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than three people show up, but we always manage. It’s a normal office in a very busy part of town.
