J. Parshottamdas & Co. is at 11 Diamond Plaza on Dhanji Street. If you’ve ever been to Zaveri Bazaar, you know how crowded it gets around here. Dhanji Street is always full of people looking for jewelry or trading gold. Our shop is in the plaza, which is a bit of a landmark for the regulars. It’s noisy and there’s always a bit of dust in the air from all the construction nearby. We handle exports and trade, mostly focusing on the things the local market is famous for. The office is small, and we have to be careful with how we use the space we have. We have a couple of safes and some sturdy tables for weighing things. Most of the day is spent talking to people who walk in or handling long-distance calls. We’ve known some of our clients for decades. Their fathers dealt with our fathers, so there's a lot of history in these transactions. That’s just how things work on Dhanji Street. We don’t use a lot of fancy technology, just the basics to keep our records straight and the business moving. It’s a traditional way of working, but it’s reliable. We take our time with each order to make sure nothing is missed. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t know what to do with ourselves if it were quiet. We like the hustle and the people we meet every single day.
