Being in Girgaon means dealing with a lot of noise every single day. J C Spares is located in the Shreeji Industrial Estate at Shop Number 2, which is part of Gogate Mansion. It is a bit cramped inside because of all the metal shelves we’ve put up over the years. Spares take up a lot of room and they are quite heavy to move around. Most of the time, the floor is half-covered in cardboard boxes that just arrived from the factory. We spend a lot of our time looking for specific parts for customers who come in holding some old, oily bit of metal looking for a match. The industrial estate always has a lot going on. You hear machines humming and people shouting to be heard all day long. It is definitely not a quiet office job. My hands are usually a bit dusty or greasy from moving things around. We have been in this spot for a long time now. The tea from the stall nearby is actually good, which helps when the afternoon gets long and tiring. Sometimes we have to tell people to wait a bit while we dig through the crates in the back. The lighting in the shop isn't great, but we know where everything is kept. It is a practical setup for us. We don't have a fancy waiting area or soft chairs. Just a counter and some old stools. Most people who come here are regulars who know exactly what they want.
