You can find Industrial Equipments Co. at 8, Dewan Niketan, right near Chembur Naka. It is a busy intersection, so there is always the sound of horns and traffic filtering into the shop. We have been operating out of this ground-floor space for years. The room is filled with heavy parts, gaskets, and various metal tools that we supply to different workshops. There is a specific smell to the place—a mix of cold metal and packing tape. The floor is often covered with bits of cardboard and wooden crates. We have an old desk where the ledger stays, and we still use a calculator with the paper roll. It’s not a modern setup by any means. We know most of the mechanics and supervisors who come in by their first names. Sometimes we sit on the stools and talk about the news while waiting for a delivery to arrive. The overhead light flickers occasionally, but we haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. Chembur Naka is a landmark that everyone knows, which makes it easy to give directions to anyone new. We don't do much in the way of advertising because people just know we are here. It is just a practical business focused on getting the gear out to whoever needs it. We close up around six, and then the commute back home begins through that same Chembur traffic that never seems to let up for us.
