Our units are 318, 319, and 320 inside the Creative Industrial Estate. It’s right on N M Joshi Marg in Lower Parel, so the whole area is always packed with people and cars. If you know Mumbai, you know how hectic this part of town is. We’ve been operating Indore Composite Pvt Ltd from these three units for a good while. Inside, it’s a mix of raw materials and heavy racks. The ceiling is high, which helps with the heat, but when the machines are all running, it still gets stuffy. We work with various composite materials, so there’s often a specific smell in the air—not bad, just industrial. The guys on the floor are usually busy with molds or cutting things to size. It’s a lot of manual handling and checking the finish on the products. We don’t have fancy carpets or glass walls. It’s just concrete floors and metal desks. During lunch, everyone heads out to the local stalls or sits on the crates to eat their tiffins. Lower Parel has changed so much around us with all the malls and towers, but inside the estate, it still feels like the old working-class city. We just keep our heads down and focus on the production schedule. There’s always something being loaded onto a truck or a fresh batch of material coming in. It is a bit of a squeeze sometimes, but we make the space work for us.
