Import J.N.P.T. & Air Cargo

Working out of 14/7 in H.M. Ansari Chawl here in Mumbai keeps us pretty grounded. It’s a typical Mumbai spot where space is tight and the air is usually warm. At Import J.N.P.T. & Air Cargo, we spend our days looking at manifests and talking to folks about their shipments coming through the port or the airport. The chawl has its own rhythm, with neighbors coming and going and kids playing nearby. It’s not like those big glass office buildings you see in the newer parts of the city. Our desks are crowded with folders and the phone rings a lot. Most of what we do involves waiting on news from the docks or the cargo terminal. We’ve got a couple of old fans that do their best to keep us cool while we sort through the daily paperwork. Sometimes things get delayed at the port, and those are the long days where we just sit and wait for the system to update. It’s a simple life, really. We know the local tea seller by name and he knows how we like our brew. We just focus on the task at hand and try to make sense of the logistics world from our little corner of the chawl. It is busy, it is cramped, and it is exactly where we belong in this city. There is always something to do, and we just keep at it until the day is done.
