Our office is tucked away inside Mustafa Bazaar on Sant Savta Marg in Byculla. We are located right behind the Union Bank of India. Mumbai is a very crowded and fast-moving city, and our neighborhood is definitely no exception to that. We have been practicing architecture from this spot for quite a long time. The office at 99/100 is where all the drawing and the planning happens. It is usually full of old project files, rolls of blueprints, and a few half-empty coffee mugs. We have to deal with the real-life struggles of building things in a city like this where space is hard to find. We spend our days trying to make sense of the local building codes and whatever the clients are asking for. It is not always glamorous work. Sometimes it is just about trying to make a tiny apartment feel a little bit bigger or more useful. We do not have one of those sleek, modern design studios you see in magazines. It is a working office with a lot of paper everywhere. People stop by to talk about their building ideas, and we just listen and start sketching. Byculla has so much history in its buildings, and we see that every time we walk to work. We do not do big presentations with fancy words. We just show the drawings and explain the structure.
