Hindustan Telecommunication

Our place, Hindustan Telecommunication, is on the first floor of Zishan House. We are in Gala No. 1, 2, and 3, right on Tank Street. This is part of Vasil Khan Marg, or what some people call Suruti Mohalla, in Mumbai-8. If you know Mumbai, you know how packed these streets are. There’s always the sound of horns and people shouting outside. Our galas are filled with all sorts of telecommunication gear, wires, and tools. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the equipment we have to keep track of. The walls are a bit scuffed and the lighting isn't the best, but we know where everything is. We spend most of our time fixing things or talking to customers who come in from the mohalla. It’s a very busy atmosphere. There’s always someone drinking tea and discussing a repair or a new installation. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People just know we are here because we’ve been in Zishan House for a long time. The stairs up to the first floor are narrow, so moving big boxes of equipment can be a real struggle. But that's just life in a Mumbai market area. We keep the doors open to let some air in, even if the city noise comes in with it. It’s a small, cramped, but very active spot where things actually get done. We know all the other shopkeepers on the block.
