Our office is located at Number 47 on Nagdevi Street, and we’ve been using P.O. Box 3164 for as long as anyone can remember. Nagdevi Street is one of those places in Mumbai that never seems to sleep. It’s narrow, crowded, and always smells like metal and oil because of all the hardware shops around us. H. Lookmanji & Co. has been operating out of this same building for decades. The staircase up to office 47 is narrow and the wooden steps creak under your feet. Inside, the ceilings are high but the walls are covered in old shelves packed with records and samples. It’s not the kind of place you’d see in a magazine. It’s a working office with heavy wooden desks and old-fashioned fans that hum constantly. We still do a lot of things the old way because that’s what works for us and our long-time customers. Most people who come to see us have been doing business with our family for generations. We don't have a marketing department or a social media page. Word of mouth on Nagdevi Street is all we’ve ever needed. It’s a bit chaotic outside with the handcarts and the shouting, but inside the office, there is a sense of history. We just keep doing what we’ve always done, day after day, in this little corner of the city.
