Our business is located on Nagdevi Street, which is one of the busiest spots in the city for hardware and tools. We are on the first floor of building 80/82. To get to us, you have to climb a narrow set of stairs that can be a bit steep if you are not used to them. The street level is always packed with carts and delivery people, so it's a bit of a relief once you get inside and upstairs. Our space is filled with the smell of metal and old paper. We have rows and rows of shelves that hold all sorts of items we’ve collected over the years. The floor is made of old wood that sometimes creaks when you walk over certain spots. We have a big desk at the front where we keep the ledgers and the telephone. It’s an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't use much fancy software; we prefer writing things down and keeping track of our stock manually. The windows are usually open to let in some air, even though it brings in the noise from the market below. We know most of the other shopkeepers on Nagdevi Street and often share a quick word when we’re out on the pavement. It’s a hard-working atmosphere here, and we just try to keep up with the daily flow of requests. We’ve been on this first floor for a long time.
