Greaves Cotting Ltd.

Greaves Cotting Ltd. is located right on the Mumbai Highway in the Chinchwad area of Pune. We are part of the auxiliary power business, so the place is usually full of heavy engines and mechanical parts. The noise from the highway is something you just learn to live with after the first week. It’s a large site and we have a lot of different sections for the assembly and the storage of the units. People here wear heavy boots and work clothes because the floor can get a bit oily. We spend our days making sure the power systems are put together right. The air smells like metal and shop grease, which is pretty standard for this type of work. In the afternoons, the sun hits the highway and makes the front of the building quite hot. We have a small canteen where everyone goes to get some shade and a quick meal. It is a busy place with a lot of movement, especially when the big lorries come in to load up the power equipment. We don’t spend much time in the office; most of the real work happens out on the main floor. It’s a tough, practical job and we just get on with it. Pune is a big hub for this kind of thing, so we fit right in with the other industrial shops along this stretch of the road. We just try to keep the workflow steady and the machines running well.
