We’ve been based out of the Panalla Silk Mill Compound for a good while now. If you know Bhandup West, you know how busy LBS Road gets, especially during the morning rush. Our spot is at A1, which is easy enough to find once you get inside the compound walls. It’s an old place, definitely has that character you only get with these former mill spaces. The ceilings are high and it stays relatively cool despite the Mumbai heat outside. Mostly, we just keep our heads down and get on with the gravure work. There’s usually a lot of noise from the machines, but that’s just how it is in an industrial area like this. We see a lot of regulars who know exactly where to turn off the main road to reach us. Sometimes the traffic on LBS Road makes deliveries a bit of a headache, but we’ve learned to work around the timings. It’s not a fancy office with glass walls or anything like that. It’s a practical workspace where we spend most of our daylight hours. The neighbors in the compound are all doing their own thing, from small workshops to storage units. We’ve got a small kettle for tea, and that’s basically our break room. It’s a straightforward life here in Bhandup, just doing the work that comes in and making sure the machines are running right. It feels like a real part of the old industrial Mumbai that’s still hanging on.
