Up in the Godrej Hill Side Colony in Mumbai, you can find us at F1/83. This is the local site for Godrej And Boyce Manufacturing Company Limited, and it’s where we do a lot of our manufacturing work. The colony is actually quite nice, with some trees and a bit of elevation that gives you a different view of the city. Our building is pretty standard for the area. Inside, it’s all business. We have the manufacturing floor where the machines are kept and a small section for the office work. It’s not a shiny corporate tower. It’s a place where things are actually built. The walls are covered in schedules and safety posters that have started to curl at the edges. There’s always the smell of oil and metal in the air, which we don’t even notice anymore. We have people who have worked here for twenty years and some who just started last month. Everyone gets along well enough. We don't have a canteen, so most of us bring lunch from home and eat at our desks or outside if the weather is okay. The 400079 area is busy, and there’s always something happening just outside the gates. We don't spend time trying to impress anyone with brochures. We just focus on the manufacturing tasks at hand. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living. We keep the machines running and the paperwork moving as best as we can.
