General Machinery Company

General Machinery Company is over in the Shivshakti Industrial Estate. We are in units 31 and 32. This place is right on the Andheri-Kurla Road, just across from Mittal Estate in Andheri East. If you know Mumbai, you know this area is always loud and full of trucks. Our workshop and office are basically the same thing. There is a lot of metal, grease, and the sound of machines running. It’s not a place where you want to wear your best clothes because you’ll probably get a stain on them. We have been in this estate for a long time and we know all the neighbors. We fix and sell machinery, so there are always parts lying around and tools on the workbenches. It gets very dusty with all the traffic outside, but we try to keep the workspace as clean as we can. We don't have a receptionist; usually, whoever is closest to the phone just picks it up. The work is heavy and sometimes tiring, but it’s honest. We take our breaks sitting on plastic chairs near the entrance to catch a bit of a breeze. It’s a busy life in Andheri but we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves in a quiet office. People come to us when their machines break down and we just do our best to get them running again quickly.
