F.T. Decor Private Limited is right in the middle of the chaos in Kalbadevi. If you know Mumbai, you know how Old Hanuman Lane is. It’s narrow and always packed with people carrying heavy bundles. Our shop is on the ground floor of Laxmi Bhavan, at plot 76/86. It’s Shop Number 4, so it’s easy to find if you’re looking, but easy to miss if you’re just walking by. We do decor items, mostly things for homes and small offices. The shop is quite small, so we have to stack things all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes it feels like the whole place is made of boxes. My father used to say that if you can see the floor, you aren't working hard enough. We deal with a lot of walk-in customers and people from the surrounding markets. It’s noisy outside with the handcarts and the shouting, but inside we just focus on getting the orders ready. We don't have a website that works very well, so most people just come in or call us on the mobile. The lights in the back room flicker sometimes, and we keep meaning to get the electrician to look at them, but we’re always too busy with deliveries. It’s a typical Kalbadevi life, honestly. We drink a lot of cutting chai and talk to the neighbors while waiting for the courier guy to show up. It's crowded but it's home for us.
