We are located in the middle of all the noise on Kalbadevi Road. Formatex India Private Limited is up on the 1st floor of Anand Bhavan at Room No. 10. The building is quite old and the stairs are narrow, usually crowded with people moving heavy boxes up and down. We spend most of our day here under the flickering tubelights. It is a bit cramped when the whole staff is in, but we make it work. Babu Genu Road is never quiet for even a minute. You can hear the constant horns and the shouting of the loaders from the street all day long. We deal with all the paperwork and the daily business, mostly keeping track of what needs to go where. Our desks are pushed close together and we have an old calendar on the wall that we sometimes forget to flip. The floor is that old-fashioned stone that stays relatively cool even when it is boiling outside. We usually get our lunch in metal dabbas and eat quickly so we can get back to the ledgers. This part of Mumbai has its own rhythm and you just learn to ignore the chaos after a few months. We do not have any fancy furniture, just some sturdy chairs and big tables that have been here for years. The windows do not open all the way because the wooden frames are warped from the damp. It is a bit dusty but it is our spot.
