If you look for us in Mumbai, you’ll find us in Kurla at Quresh Nagar. Our room is No. 2 in the Ismail Nasiruddin Chawl. It’s a very local spot, very lived-in and always busy with people moving around. We work on electromechanical stuff, which means there is usually grease on someone’s hands and a lot of tools lying around on the workbenches. Kurla is a hub for this kind of industry, so we fit right in with the neighbors. It gets really hot in the shop during the summer months, but we have a couple of fans that keep the air moving a little bit. We’ve been doing this for years, and most of the guys here have learned everything on the job. It’s not a fancy office with air conditioning and glass walls. It’s a place where work gets done. We fix motors, check wiring, and deal with industrial parts that most people don't ever see. Sometimes it’s loud, and sometimes it’s just quiet focus on a small part. We handle a lot of local repairs for the small factories nearby. It’s a tight-knit community here in the chawl. Everyone knows what everyone else is working on. We don't spend much on advertising because the people who need us usually know where Ismail Nasiruddin Chawl is. We just keep our heads down and work on whatever comes through the door each morning.
