We are up on the 5th floor of Scorpio House, which is inside the Hiranandani Business Park in Powai. It is a big building with a lot of different offices, so the elevators are usually quite full in the mornings. Our space is mostly desks, computers, and a few meeting rooms where we talk about the different materials and chemicals we deal with. It stays pretty cool inside because of the air conditioning, which is a relief when the Mumbai humidity gets bad outside. You can see out over the business park from some of the windows, though most of the time we are just looking at our screens. We have a small kitchen area where people heat up their tiffins at lunchtime. The hallways are quiet for the most part, except for when people are heading out for a break. We handle a lot of technical data and paperwork regarding silicones and other products. It’s not a factory setting like some other places; it’s more about coordination and managing the supply side of things. Sometimes the coffee machine breaks down, which causes a bit of a stir among the staff until it gets fixed. We try to keep the files in order, but the desks usually end up covered in sticky notes and pens by the end of the week. It’s a typical office routine where we show up, do the work, and then head back into the Powai traffic.
