We are situated over in Surya Nagar at the Adke Compound in Vikhroli West. This area is full of small industrial units and workshops, so it’s never really quiet. Our places are B/17 and B/19. It’s a very practical setup. We handle metal wares, so the floor is concrete and there’s usually a bit of dust and the smell of oil in the air. It’s not the kind of place you’d visit for a meeting if you wanted to stay clean. We spend most of our time on the floor with the machines and the raw materials. It can get pretty hot in the summer, but we’ve got some large fans that we keep running all day. Most of the crew has been here for a long time. We know each other’s rhythms and how to get the work done without much talk. We don't do any flashy advertising or have a big sales team. We just take the orders as they come and try to get them out the door on time. Sometimes the power goes out in the compound, and we just have to wait it out. We usually use those breaks to grab some chai or just sit by the entrance. The gate stays open during the day to let some air in. It’s a simple business. We don't have a fancy lobby or any corporate slogans on the wall. We just make what we need to make and head home at the end of the shift.
