Speed Garments

Our shop, Speed Garments, is right in the middle of Dharavi Koliwada, at Sankul No. 1. If you're looking for us, we are behind the ONGC residential house and pretty close to Guru Gymkhana. It’s a busy part of the city, and the lanes are narrow, so there’s always people walking past the entrance. Inside, you can hear the sound of the machines going almost all day long. It gets quite loud, but we’ve gotten used to it over the years. We aren't a big factory; it's more of a tight space filled with rolls of cloth and thread. Sometimes the boxes are stacked so high you have to squeeze past them to get to the back. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby. You just walk in and we're there working. The heat can be a bit much in the afternoons, but we keep the windows open to catch whatever breeze comes through. We do our own thing here, making sure the orders are ready when they need to be. There isn't much time for fancy speeches or meetings. We just look at the samples, check the stitching, and move on to the next piece. It’s a gritty kind of work, but it’s honest. Dharavi has a certain energy that keeps you moving, and we’ve been part of that energy for a long time now. Just a local shop making garments in the Koliwada area.
