Our spot is at unit number 8 in the Veena Industrial Estate. It’s right in Vikhroli West, directly across from the Punjab & Sind Bank. Being in an industrial estate means there is a lot of movement around us. Trucks are constantly loading and unloading, and there’s always the sound of someone using a drill or a hammer nearby. Design Centre Engineers Pvt Ltd is a small operation. We have a lot of blueprints and technical drawings rolled up in the corners. The lighting isn't the best, so we use a lot of desk lamps to see what we are doing. It’s a bit of a dusty environment because of the L B Road traffic and the surrounding workshops. We usually have our lunch together on a big wooden table that has seen better days. It isn't the kind of place where you’d wear a suit. Most of us are in jeans and old shirts because the work can get a bit messy. The bank across the street is a good landmark for people trying to find us for the first time. We’ve been here long enough that we know all the other shop owners in the estate. We just focus on getting the engineering details right and making sure the drawings are accurate. It’s a simple life of measuring things and checking schedules. We go home tired but satisfied that the day’s work is finally done.
